I just wanted to acknowledge an anonymous response to my most recent sushi blog that told me I had better enjoy my sushi while I am able because some fish are going extinct some day. Well, I do applaud your passionate stand for the rights of fish everywhere my friend but don't you think its safe to say that in fact some day we, and all living creatures for that matter, will also be extinct? I say fuck it man! Carpe diem, life's too short to not eat good food.

I wasn't trying to be the buzz-killer, and I'll try to say this as respectfully as possible.
First of all, capre diem is not meant to imply a free-for-all. Traditionally, it has involved balancing actions against consequences, a consideration of regret. The religious will say there will be an accounting; the non-religious will say with freedom comes responsibility.
The fact is, as more species become extinct, more species die out for lack of food. The ever-expanding decrease in diversity impacts all levels of life, and most of the damage is caused by humans seeking food and shelter. All I'm saying is that we should be more cognizant of the damage wreaked by our appetites.
That everyone and everything will at some point die sounds a lot like "If everyone is going to jump off a bridge..."
Now that everyone who has read this is thoroughly depressed. . . I'll just say that everyone should pick up some Colorado peaches and vanilla ice cream (and Stranahans!) before the peaches are out of season!
(Don't get me wrong, I enjoy your blog a lot. Keep up the good work!)
